After Weeks of Dry Spell, Rain and Snow Return to Pakistan

After an extended dry period, Pakistan is set to experience much-needed rainfall and snowfall as a frontal weather system moves into the country starting February 19. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecasts rain, wind, thunderstorms, and heavy snowfall across northern and upper regions until February 21.

  • Gilgit-Baltistan & Kashmir: Heavy snowfall is expected in Diamer, Astore, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, and other hilly regions.

  • Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Regions including Chitral, Dir, Swat, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Kohistan, and Peshawar will see rain, thunderstorms, and snowfall in higher elevations.

  • Punjab: Rain and thunderstorms are forecast in Islamabad, Lahore, Faisalabad, Sargodha, and Potohar regions, while light rain is likely in Multan, D.G. Khan, and Bahawalnagar.

  • Balochistan: Quetta, Ziarat, and Zhob will experience rain and snowfall over hills on February 18-19.

  • Murree & Galiyat: Tourists are advised to remain cautious as heavy snowfall may cause road closures.

  • Slippery Roads & Disruptions: Snowfall may lead to roadblocks in Murree, Galiyat, Swat, Kaghan, Naran, and Skardu.

  • Hailstorm Threat: Isolated hailstorms could hit upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, and Kashmir.

  • Landslides & Avalanches: A warning has been issued for hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, Murree, and Galiyat.

  • Agricultural Benefits: Rain will be beneficial for standing crops in rain-fed areas of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Authorities on High Alert

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and provincial authorities have been advised to take necessary precautions to prevent disruptions. Tourists are urged to avoid unnecessary travel in affected areas.

What About Sindh?

The Met Office predicts dry weather for most parts of Sindh, though gusty winds may affect coastal areas.
